Movie Cars: These Are the Top On-Screen Rides of 2016

Another year of films is coming to a close. Along with the top names in Hollywood, there are always automotive stars that take the stage in blockbuster movies. Some make a brief cameo while others experience total and complete destruction in front of the camera lens.In 2016, we didn’t get a new installment of the Fast and Furious series. Nor did we have any James Bond flicks. Instead, most of the vehicles we saw were a little off the beaten path. Check out these top movie cars of 2016.Deadpool’s TaxiTheir dialogue in the movie is mostly witty banter by the dubious superhero played by Ryan Reynolds and the naïve Darpinder. Each interaction takes place in the typical taxicab environment, complete with Daffodil Dream air freshener and the driver’s doting images.The car, coincidentally, is a Crown Vic in taxicab yellow.Jason Bourne’s Dodge ChargerIn the fifth instalment of the Jason Bourne series titled after the main character, Jason Bourne, there’s little doubt you’re going to get a car chase. You’re not disappointed as Matt Damon once again tries to outrun the CIA, led by Tommy Lee Jones.It’s a lengthy chase that happens on the Las Vegas strip in both the movie and in real life. The late-model Dodge Charger takes several sideswipes, jumps the boulevard, plows through oncoming traffic, and evades the local police cars as well as the CIA’s specialty SUV.It should go without saying, but folks, don’t try this stuff at home with your Charger."Captain America: Civil War" Audi SQ7Like any good blockbuster movie, "Captain America: Civil War" takes advantage of a manufacturer’s desire for the limelight. Audi takes control of the tunnel chase scene in this Avengers movie, right down to Captain America driving the stylish Audi SQ7 with its police lights flashing.Wait, what? An Audi SQ7 police vehicle? Yessir, there’s a whole fleet of Audi SQ7s for the coppers in the movie. It’s a good choice for law enforcement with 43 horsepower and a top speed of 155 miles per hour. If the bad guys can still outrun the cops, perhaps it’s not safe to pursue.Old Ford Truck in "10 Cloverfield Lane"The dark, twisted "10 Cloverfield Lane" takes a few turns you aren’t expecting. John Goodman plays a mistaken villain whose Ford truck sits in his rural yard site while an apocalyptic event occurs.Near the end of the movie, the rusty tan and brown pickup hits the spotlight as it gets assaulted by extraterrestrial visitors. The main character, Michelle, goes for a ride skyward as the pickup is, well, picked up by an alien ship. It’s then dropped back to earth unceremoniously, resulting in a few extra dents."The Nice Guys" Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Convertible/Olds ToronadoSome movies are set in an era befitting more than one feature car. The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, is one of those films. It’s 1977 and the two are trying to solve a case. Between slapstick comedy, gunfights, half-naked women and funky clothes, the main characters cruise around in a couple stellar rides.One is a spectacular Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Convertible. Even the Benz is a '70s brown finish. The 280 SE is far from the nicest Mercedes you’ll find from that time, but it does suit the movie and its lead characters quite famously.The other car is a ’68 Olds Toronado. Flip-up headlight covers unveil the narrow-eyed front appearance of the Toronado and its unique side profile is also spot-on to match the quirky lead duo."Doctor Strange" – Lamborghini HuracanMarvel’s newest superhero doesn’t have a butler to drive him around. He doesn’t take a taxi or fly through the clouds. His choice of transportation has super power just like he does. Doctor Strange drives a Lamborghini Huracan.In the much-anticipated movie release, the main character gets behind the wheel of a Grigio Lynx Lamborghini Huracan Coupe, donated by Lamborghini for the movie. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the character of Dr. Stephen Strange, looks quite comfortable controlling the V-10 powered supercar. As the press release states, “the Huracán naturally unleashes one's inner Super Hero”."Hell or High Water" – '87 CamaroWhen the bank-robbing brothers in Hell or High Water are making their getaway, they go for real American muscle. You won’t find them behind the wheel of a Honda or Volkswagen in the deep south. No, these badass boys are driving a bunch of nondescript vehicles including an 87 Camaro.As the duo, played by Chris Pine and Ben Foster, evade capture from the honcho cop, Jeff Bridges, their choice of vehicles include an ’88 Crown Vic, a ’98 Ford Taurus, and an ’87 Chevy Camaro. The Camaro is the typical blue and silver two-tone paint job and looks to have a mix of Z-28 and RS parts. It suits the movie to a tee. Now, will the boys make a clean getaway with the loot?
