The Edge ST gets a specially tuned 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine
New Ford Edge ST Is a 335-HP High-Performance SUV
A new vehicle from the Ford Performance team is making its way into the manufacturer’s SUV lineup for the first time. The all-new Ford Edge ST will be available for model year 2019.
The introduction of the new midsize high-performance SUV comes after Ford had its best-ever SUV sales in the U.S. in 2017. Along with boasting the most-powerful engine in its class, according to a release, the Ford Edge ST is one of the smartest that Ford has offered.
Ford Edge ST Performance
The all-new Ford Edge ST features a specially tuned 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine. It pumps out 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
Other features compliment the powerplant. There’s a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive with selectable traction control.
The Ford Edge ST comes with a new Sport Mode. It allows drivers to “experience more aggressive throttle response and shifting patterns that hold gears near redline through cornering maneuvers, sharper engine braking, and a more resonant exhaust tone,” according to a release.
Ford also gave the high-performance SUV an ST-tuned sport suspension. And a performance brake package is available.
In total, the Ford Edge ST puts a performance SUV with a track mentality on the road. “From a performance standpoint, and with its SUV silhouette and versatility, it sets a new standard Edge fans will love to drive,” said Hau Thai-Tang, executive vice president of Product Development and Purchasing.
Ford Edge ST Appearance
New front and rear stylings give visual cues to the SUV’s performance capabilities. Some of the these features include a wide mesh grille for optimal cooling, deep side skirts and dual-exhaust outlets. Unique 21-inch wheels are available.
The athletic motif carries over into the cabin. There are design cues on the steering wheel, seat backs and scuff plates.
Safety Tech
The entire 2019 Ford Edge lineup, including the Edge ST, is Ford’s smartest ever. Each trim comes standard with more driver-assist technology than any other midsize SUV, according to a release.
Some of these features include pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, BLIS with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping alert and assist, and auto high beams.
The 2019 Edge also comes equipped with other standard or available features that are a first for Ford and its segment. Post-collision braking helps reduce the impact of a secondary collision by automatically applying the brakes after contact. Evasive-steering assist helps drivers steer around stopped or slower vehicles to avoid collision.
Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering helps the vehicle maintain a comfortable driving distance from vehicles ahead and stay within the lane.
Pricing and availability for the new Ford Edge ST has not been announced yet.
