Dodge Challenger Sales Surge Ahead of Mustang, Camaro

Auburn Hills, Mich. – After looking at June car sales, one significant figure jumped out. Dodge Challenger sales surpassed both Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro sales.

Last month, Dodge pressed the pedal to the metal and sold 6,605 Challengers in the United States. That’s quite a few, considering Dodge hasn’t updated the Challenger platform for over nine years. That figure edges out the 6,186 Mustangs Ford sold. Chevy only moved 4,691 Camaros in June.

This will throw plenty of fuel on the rivalry fire. After all, bragging rights for just about everything can be important to fans of these three muscle cars.

Bitter Rivalry

In the automotive world, one thing’s always true: Mustang, Camaro and Challenger diehards will always bicker. Of course, Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge love to play into this rivalry.

Fans are always trying to argue about which muscle car is the best for performance, looks and even real-world practicality.

The three automakers will mix things up by releasing special versions of the different cars. That gives everyone the chance to argue about 0 to 60 times, Nurburgring runs, top speeds and plenty other topics.

This debate has been raging for decades. Even as the Mopar muscle car took a hiatus for a while, the Mustang vs Camaro battle continued. While the Dodge has lagged in many ways, it seems this is still a three-pony race after all.

Dodge Demon Effect?

Likely, this is no coincidence that the Dodge Challenger suddenly leaped ahead. After all, the car’s been getting all kinds of press lately. The Dodge Demon acts as one hell of a halo model. It alone could be the difference.

Most people will never get a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. After all, they’re rare, relatively expensive and admittedly not entirely practical. Some publications, most notably Automotive News, have called Dodge irresponsible for even making the Demon. Others have praised Dodge for being incredibly bold.

Just like any other halo car, the Demon has an important function. It helps spread the word of how incredible the Challenger is. People hear about it and realize that Dodge makes legitimately potent vehicles, which can change perceptions. That might sound funny, but it’s true.

After hearing about the Demon, people might decide to visit their local dealer and see if they can ogle one in person. They may or may not be successful, but the halo car gets shoppers in showrooms.

From there, a good sales associate can get someone interested in other Challenger models. As Dodge likes to say, there’s a Challenger for everyone.

The real question is how will Dodge Challenger sales fare against Mustang and Camaro sales in July.
