8. Ford Edge
Ford has a slew of SUVs, but the Edge is one of the more affordable. Starting at $27,000 or so, it offers 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. There are also lots of upgrades available for a bit more money upfront, and you’ll still benefit from excellent handling and ample power to handle whatever the road throws at you.
7. Honda Pilot
Honda has several SUVs on the market, and the Pilot is the largest of them. With a starting price around $30,000, it’s not the cheapest mid-size SUV on the market, but it’s definitely affordable compared to some other options. The Pilot also offers decent fuel economy, to the tune of 19 mpg in town and 27 mpg on the highway. The only engine offered is a V6, but that delivers more than enough power.
6. Subaru XV Crosstrek
If you’re looking for a compact SUV that delivers excellent off-road performance, combined with good on-road manners, the Subaru XV Crosstrek might be just the ticket. Priced around $21,000 for the base model, it also delivers 26 mpg in town and 34 mpg on the highway. It also features all-time all-wheel drive, excellent handling, and a surprising amount of space inside. With that being said, the engine could be stronger, but that’s a tradeoff you’ll have to make for that excellent fuel economy.
